Pro paintball player Zack Wake has signed with San Diego Dynasty for the 2012 paintball season. Read on for the latest paintball news

<fb:like href='http://www.propaintball.com/2011/12/zack-wake-dynasty-pro-paintball/' send='false' layout='button_count' show_faces='true' width='450' height='65' action='like' colorscheme='light' font='lucida+grande'></fb:like>
San Diego Dynasty and Zack Wake have signed a deal for the 2012 pro paintball season, a source told ProPaintball yesterday. Until last week, Zack had been playing snake side for LA Infamous in both 7-man and Race-To pro paintball formats.

Pro Paintball team San Diego Dynasty breaking out

In 2012, Zack Wake, a pro paintball all star, will play both snake and dorrito sides of the field for Dynasty. Wake is an offensive player and will compliment the teams aggressive style of game play. His addition to the team should help provide the boost they need to dominate the pro division in Europe and American events next season.

Pro Paintball player Zack Wake on the move

Pro Paintball caught up with Dynasty Coach Mike Hinman for a few words.

“Dynasty is proud to anounce the addition of Zack Wake to its roster for the 2012 season. Many of our guys have played with him in the past and we believe his transition to Dynasty will be as easy and painless as can be.”

Dynasty’s roster features the who’s who of professional paintball. The addition of Wake only makes the team that much stronger. He will be joining his former Aftermath teammates Alex Goldman, Steven Pitts in playing for the triple crown Championship in 2012.

San Diego Dynasty, sponsored by Empire Paintball and Guerrilla Air, is a fiercely competitive paintball team with a long history of winning. In the 2011 NPPL Surf City Open, Dynasty captured their 50th professional win in the match against rival team Sacramento XSV.

What do you think about Zack joining Dynasty? Does Dynasty have what it takes to win the Triple Crown Championship in 2012?

San Diego Dynasty has had a successful run shooting the Planet Eclipse GEO and EGO paintball guns. During the last two paintball seasons Dynasty has won or ranked within the top 4 of most of the events they have competed in. Dynasty, as a franchise, is very valuable to sponsors looking to market their products. In addition to winning over 50 paintball events, the team presents a clean cut, professional image and is well marketed throughout the world. As such, a several paintball companies have been courting them in hopes of signing endorsement deals.

Rumors had floated that San Diego Dynasty would be courted at the 2011 PSP World Cup by Empire Paintball to shoot the AXE paintball gun. Dynasty wears head to toe Empire Paintball gear and many figured that the guns would be a hot topic in this years contract negotiations. On the other side of the pond, rumors circulated that Planet Eclipse was going to try and extend their contract.

The rumors were set straight last night. ProPaintball insiders informed us that San Diego Dynasty and Planet Eclipse inked a 2 year contract extension yesterday evening. According to insiders, the relationship has been very successful for Eclipse and Dynasty. Sources suggest they plan to continue their relationship for the foreseeable future.

Many of you read the final results from the event, but, much like myself, missed the final match up. Many pro paintball players and industry veterans have referred to the final match of the PSP Chicago Open as one of the best, if not the best, paintball games they have ever witnessed. In a back and forth match up, two of the top pro paintball teams face off for the Chicago Open championship title. Sit back and watch the amazing paintball video and witness for yourself watch the game the paintball community is raving about.

Truth be told, all of the players from both teams involved in the match played great paintball. However, during the final moments of the match Russian Legion player Justin Rabackoff makes an amazing move out of the snake and up the center of the field. The following paintball video is only a minute and a half long, but be forewarned, you may have to replay it a few times.

The Russian Legion battled against world paintball series leaders San Diego Dynasty for the PSP Chicago Open title. The Russians emerged the victors in an over time match that some say was the best paintball they have witnessed in the history of the sport. If you missed the free paintball webcast hosted by Matty Marshall you should be kicking yourself. The PSP webcast was an amazing production with excellent game footage and commentary that kept paintball fans on the edges of their couches all weekend long. The PSP has promised to release some of the episodes online via Youtube and other online video sharing sites in the coming weeks.

Below are a few words from the PSP’s Camille Lemanski regarding the event as well as final results for all the divisions.

After severe weather did its best to take out this event, Burt Wright, Matt Fraundorf, Nick Casner, Rich Hernandez, Aaron Arroyo, Matty Morse and Brian Berg of the PSP Crew along with volunteers from team LSD and the CPX Sports Park staff led by Darrell Parrish, worked around the clock to revive the venue and save the event. This came as complete relief to the thousands of PSP players and fans including those who traveled in from as far as Sweden, Russia, Ecuador and Brazil!

Beautifully calm weather swept in after the reconstruction just in time for games to begin, allowing raw talent and strategic game plans to take center stage. With 9 different divisions to choose from, 155 teams from several nations competed against each other to better themselves and prove who really is the best in the world.

Something that was extra special for this event was the return of the live webcast! Thousands of fans from all over the world – literally – were watching pro games at www.pspevents.com all day Saturday along with Pro and some divisional final action live and for free all day Sunday!

Global enthusiasm seemed to build up Sunday as it became clear that the Professional final match would once again come down to San Diego Dynasty and Boston Red Legion of Russia. These two teams faced off against each other in the March PSP Galveston event with Dynasty winning… and the rivalry has been building up tension ever since. Boston Red Legion started out strong taking the first two points, but several close points later and San Diego Dynasty came out time and again with the lead. In what seemed like would be the final point before Dynasty were re-crowned champs, Justin Rabacoff made the move of the event by taking the flag and racing it into Dynasty’s flag station with just 2 seconds left in the game… while Dynasty still had live bodies on the field!! This took the game into Sudden Death Overtime which came down to a one-on-one where Boston Red Legion’s final player, who was seemingly out of paint, eliminated the final Dynasty player to win the event!

Final Score: San Diego Dynasty 5, Boston Red Legion 6

Let the Dynasty/Legion rivalry continue as we take the PSP to our next stop: PSP New Jersey, August 12 – 14, 2011 at TopGun Paintball! But first, please join us in congratulating all of the 2011 PSP Chicago Open Champions!

Hinman, the coach of pro paintball team San Diego Dynasty, has answered your questions.

Mike Hinman, Coach of pro paintball team San Diego Dynasty

PB101: What steps would you take to start and run a successful paintball team?

Mike Hinman - I would make realistic goals and try to find a group of players that have the same goals. you see a lot of D4 teams with a mix of young and old talent. Usually teams like this don’t last do to the fact most young kids have dreams of going pro and some of the older guys wish to just have fun.

The Black Dutchman and good Q ask: You have a great eye for talent. Who is the going to be the next up and coming superstar? Are there any players in the WCPPL you see joining the pro ranks soon?

Mike Hinman - Well as far as “superstars” go I’m not sure who on the West coast will be our next. But as for upcoming pro level talent there are a few. 1- Ricky Axtell from SD Mob. 2- Xavier Linn from Fuzion 3- Brandon Cornell from SD Pirates. The first two I think are ready to go this year. The third Brandon Cornell has a year or two to go but for the age of 14 is a really smart kid. He is also driven to be a pro. Brandon is a regular at our Dynasty practices when the SD Pirates aren’t grinding. Also I should say that almost every D2 team in the WCPPL has a stunner or two on it.

Trevor: When are you and Steve Wilkos going to go face to face?

Mike Hinman - Haha. Steve sold-out he doesn’t throw chairs anymore. So I think I have a better chance of getting in the cage with Chuck Liddell.

Jojo: What kind of rules do you have for dynasty? Is there any?

Mike Hinman – Hmmmmm well funny you ask this question. No there aren’t too many rules as of now. But the few we have are 5 dollars for a major in any league that will go into a 1vs1 tournament at the end of the season. Second is if you are late you have bag duty for the whole team. At the end of the day I have executive rule on players and plays but the team is good about regulating themselves.

Steve: Name the 5 best back players in pro paintball today?

Mike Hinman – Oh man Steve are you trying to get me killed???? It’s hard to call anyone the greatest. But how about this

Standard 5
1. Yosh Rau
2. Dave Baines
3. Mike Paxson
4. Mike Carthy
5. Frank Connell

Most Underrated
1. Chris Hooker
2. Alex Martinez
3. Cole Scott
4. Bobby Aviles
5. Billy Wing

JJ: What are the top 3 points or skills an X-ball team needs to concentrate on?

Mike Hinman – The most important skill for X-ball is running and shooting. Watch Zack Wake, Alex Goldman, Brian Smith or J-Rab. These guys are machines at running and shooting and hitting. Mike Carthy taught me to run and shoot while we were together on Aftershock and I can honestly say I shot more guys after I learned to run and gun. The second thing is communication. To many people think that they don’t need to talk anymore. That is 100 percent wrong. The third is composure as a team. Two years ago at World Cup I watched Tampa Bay Damage come back and win from being down 0-6 to the New England Hurricanes. They never lost their cool and didn’t turn on each other.

Thom from the UK: How do you record and track the progression in the performance of your players?

Mike Hinman – I don’t really track the performance of any of the guys on San Diego Dynasty (Official Site). But I have always said you are only as good as your last tournament. So if a player shows up to practice this weekend and has a rough weekend it probably won’t affect him much in my mind. But after a few practices of substandard performance he would probably see less playing time at the next event.

Harrison Reynolds: What are some of the most important things you think they should be working on as a team to be successful?

Mike Hinman – Having fun together. On Dynasty we have a group chat text msg. It is fun and a great way to keep in contact with our teammates no matter where they are. Always remembering to have fun together. I have lost sight of this throughout my pro paintball career and made my life and everyone else miserable.

Andre: Is there a chance that you are going to bring up another small divisional team like you did with Aftermath Or are you planning to keep your focus on Dynasty and the WCPPL?

Mike Hinman – Well I currently help coach Dynasty 2 for NPPL. Besides that it would be tough in the WCPPL (Official Site) to do it. While I know that I would never do anything to compromise the integrity of my league it would still be a massive conflict of interest. As for now my only focus is DYNASTY. But you never know what the future holds.

Chris Dubois: What do you do to try to break the cycle when another team just seems to have your number during a match?

Mike Hinman – If a team is beating us there is very little I can do. But if I see that my players aren’t sticking to our game plan then I can pull a guy out or mix up a line to get us back on track. But on Dynasty it’s a bit different than a lot of other teams. These guys know what to do if they are down. They have been there before.

Jordan: What are your top 5 favorite drills to run to improve a paintball team?

Mike Hinman – One on Ones are the way I start our day. We then go to two on twos. I like to do three on three half field attack the fifty drills. We start guys in mirrored bunkers and make them fight there way to the fifty and hold it. If we are playing 7 man I like to do three on five closing drills with two minutes on the clock. I also like the two on three drills where usually the three side wins and after the last two side is eliminated I will call out two of the three players names and count down from five. When I say GO three more guys are already coming at them. This gives us a chance to see a lot of game closing situations with guys and positions they aren’t used to seeing.

Patrick: What happened to San Diego Aftermath?

Mike Hinman – Life. Originally Aftermath was started to be a beating post for me and DYNASTY. A bunch of local kids that would push us and we would teach them. We taught them over time and they blossomed into a pro paintball team. Dynasty never took any Aftermath players and allowed them to exist in San Diego. Which is more than I can say for some other local pro teams! After a few years and over 80 different players I took a look at what we had become and really wasn’t happy with the people that I was supporting. So that was the end of it. I would like to say that it was the greatest time of my life but it wasn’t. I maybe have 7 guys I still talk to out of close to a hundred. I should have done it sooner. I would like to say thanks to the few that did support the team and were selfless like Dan Wake, Steve Humphries, Shawn Barker, and some of the players at the end.

Lusicious: What is the best way for an individual, and a team, to train for xball?

Mike Hinman – Individually keep in shape. So many young players aren’t ready for an X-ball grind. You don’t need to lift a ton of weights but you MUST have endurance. As for a team try to have structure to your practice. Have a beginning and an end to your day. There are a lot of young teams that lose focus throughout their day and don’t maximize there practice.

NewPro: What changes would you make to the PSP format going forward?

Mike Hinman – Man I wouldn’t even know where to begin with that question. I mean every year they change something and the players think it’s the end of the world. And usually after the first event peace is restored to the paintball universe and people like the changes. So all I can say is Lane keep doing what you are doing and I’m sure we will keep supporting it.

Special thanks to Mike and Jessica Hinman for their longstanding support for ProPaintball. Check out tons of great paintball footage and watch as Dynasty wins with some of the best paintball gear on the market.

“Coming Home” is narrated by Matt Marshall and gives you unprecedented access to pro paintball team San Diego Dynasty over the course of three days as they compete at the PSP 2011 Galveston Open. The documentary lets you experience the event step by step right along with the team.

The kick-off of the 2011 season marks the return of Dynasty icon Oliver Lang, who shocked the paintball world by leaving the team for the Los Angeles Ironmen prior to the 2006 season. Lang rejoins core members Alex Fraige, Ryan Greenspan, Yosh Rau, veteran Glen Takemoto, and five of the top young prospects in the game as Dynasty attempts to start another run of dominance.

Planet Eclipse and Artifact give you an intimate look at Dynasty-at practice, the hotel, in the pits before and after matches, and on the field, as well as inside the minds of the core players as they share their thoughts on Lang’s return, the team’s rise to prominence, their talented new players, and Texas event itself.

<fb:like href='http://www.propaintball.com/2011/05/pro-paintball-update-dynasty-ryan-greenspan/' send='false' layout='button_count' show_faces='true' width='450' height='65' action='like' colorscheme='light' font='lucida+grande'></fb:like>
In part 1 of our Pro Update Series, Ryan Greenspan of San Diego Dynasty shares his thoughts on NPPL 2011 Chicago Open. Last weekends NPPL Chicago paintball tournament marked San Diego Dynasty’s 4th consecutive victory in the 2011 paintball season. All across the internet players and fans have been discussing the possibility of Dynasty earning their 4th Triple Crown Championship. There is also discussion surrounding the controversy that took place at the NPPL 2011 Chicago Open finals between Avalanche, Dynasty and Uprising.

“Here we go again.” Those four words are becoming more common between Dynasty’s veteran members than the actual codes used on the field. For more than a decade, we have been playing this game, and for more than a decade, Chicago has been an important mid-season stop for all tournament paintball players. “Here we go again,” Yosh said to me at around 6am the morning we are heading to Chicago from San Diego for the second NPPL event of the season and, more importantly, the fourth event for us as a new revamped Dynasty team. We have won 3 tournaments in a row before, but not for a long time. We have had a lot of down time since our last event and we want to keep our fans and sponsors happy with another good result.

We went into Chicago excited to get back together and ready to dominate. We played on Saturday, so that gave us a full Friday to watch the other pro teams and figure out that some of our game plans weren’t going to work as well as we had thought.

We went 5-2 in the prelims on Saturday, but we were still struggling with the field and how to play it. Individually we were playing well, which was enough to get us to Sunday, but we still didn’t have the field figured out.

We did a better job on Sunday, but if you were in our pit you probably would have thought we were losing games instead of winning since we still weren’t happy with how we were playing as a team.

We know everyone wants to know what happened with Avalanche and Frank and Oliver. The basics are that it was that there were 4 Avalanche players left and 2 Dynasty players with Glenn in the snake corner and Oliver in the snake. They didn’t know Oliver was in the snake and Billy dove in right in front of Oliver who shot at Billy. Billy shot at Oliver once he realized he was there, but the refs said Oliver had already shot Billy and left Oliver in. While this was happening, Frank ran to bunker Oliver. Oliver and Glenn both shot at Frank and Frank shot at Oliver. The referees said that Frank was shot before he got to Oliver and left Oliver in. Glenn got shot while this was happening and it was now a 1-on-1 with Oliver and the Avalanche player in the dorito corner. Oliver won that and went and pulled the flag. Frank came over from the dead box as Oliver was pulling the flag and they exchanged some words and some contact might have been made. Both Frank and Oliver were suspended and neither played the last game in the finals. It’s unfortunate that there was controversy in the finals, but unfortunately sometimes that is part of sports. We consider Frank and the rest of the Avalanche players our friends, and nothing that happened in Chicago changes that.

Avalanche played great all weekend, and we’d like to congratulate them as well as Uprising and Impact on making the top 4.

Everyone keeps saying Dynasty is back, Dynasty is winning again, and yea, that’s true. We know the past couple years we haven’t been unstoppable but we have won a couple of events here and there and we have had success. This year we made some changes and we have a new fire that is pushing us in the right direction. With the addition of some new younger talent and more hungry players, we are able to reignite what we used to have. Plus having new young guys like Dalton Vanderbyl and Alex Goldman to run around and do all the hard work makes it easier on the guys who have been coming to these events for over a decade! I want to take this time to thank first off our AMAZING fans who follow us through every up and down we go thru, special thanks goes out to Al Poorman for driving up to see us, I think he is in the top five biggest Dynasty fans, maybe even over some of our mothers. Also, thank you to Empire, Eclipse, RPS, Guerilla air, CP, Pendleton, and every one of our sponsors, past and especially present for getting us to where we are today!
San Diego Dynasty, an Empire Paintball team, has won the NPPL 2011 Chicago Open paintball tournament. This is the 4th event in a row that Dynasty has won since the start of the 2011 paintball season. Paintball players and fans across the world have been discussing the return of Dynasty and the possibilities of a 4th Triple Crown Championship. During the 2010 off season, Dynasty manager Eric Crandall and Coach Mike Hinman augmented one of the top rosters in paintball with Dalton Vanderbyl, Alex Goldman, and Oliver Lang. The result has been a seemingly unstoppable team and a Triple Crown Championship appears to be a distinct possibility.

The Chicago Open pro division’s final four was notable in that it was the first time we have seen St. Louis Avalanche and Portland Uprising on the podium. St. Louis Avalanche started the year off on a somber note, finishing 11th place. Between HB and Chicago, the team saw AJ Trillet leave to Chicago Legend and Justin Schwarz joined Avalanche from Arsenal. The new kids on the block, Portland Uprising, finished the event in 3rd place. Uprising started the season at NPPL 2011 Surf City Open and finished in dead last. During the break between events Uprising brushed off the paint and decided to step up their game. The team picked up Cole Scott from Vancouver Vendetta and practiced like mad men to improve their lackluster performance at Event 1. In forth place was Edmonton Impact. Impact has a championship roster and many paintball fans expected to watch the team unseat Dynasty in the finals. No strangers to the podium, Impact posted a 3rd place finish at Event 1 and ProPaintball expects the team will be bringing the heat in the events to come.

The top results for each division are as follows:
