True to its name, Paintball World Cup Asia was a fierce battle between teams from over 32 countries from around the world. The World Cup Asia (referred to as WCA) hosted 1,810 paintball players hailing from 152 paintball teams. Teams competed in an indoor facility on astro-turf and millennium series bunkers. The layout itself lent to a defensive style of game play with 5 of the larger bunkers based in the back of the field. Paintball website View from the Deadbox had a spot on analysis of the game play.

The final match up for the PALS World Cup Asia was hosted last night in the beautiful Langkawi, Malaysia. Hailing from Iran, Team Datis retained their World Cup title in a match up against Reaper from South Africa (final score 4-1, Datis). Team Datis played a no-nonsense, methodical game of paintball throughout the event. The players remained focus and respectful throughout and were the clear winners.

ProPaintball sits down with Iranian Pro player Amirhosein Doosthaghighi to discuss his career and the developing paintball scene in Malaysia

<fb:like href='http://www.propaintball.com/2011/06/interview-iranian-professional-player-amirhosein-doosthaghighi/' send='false' layout='button_count' show_faces='true' width='450' height='65' action='like' colorscheme='light' font='lucida+grande'></fb:like>
This weeks interview gives readers an insiders look into the developing tournament paintball scene in Malaysia. ProPaintball’s Iranian corespondent Nima Razavi was able to catch up with international Pro player Amirhosein Doosthaghighi. In the seven years he’s been playing, Doosthaghighi has constantly been on the move between teams, playing locations, and tournament series. About a year ago he was offered a spot on Malaysian paintball pro team Demonz Red from team owner Patrick Tan. Since the pick up, they have gone on to win the 2010 MPOC (Malaysia Paintball Official Circuit) Series! Read on for the extensive interview and media collection.

Name: Amirhosein Dousthaghighi #777

Age: 34

Hometown: Tehran, Iran

Previous teams: Javidan (03-04) – Datis (06-09) – Persian legend (09)

Current Team & Home field: Demonz Red (2010-2011)- Canyon Paintball Field (Malaysia).

Sponsors of your team: Propaintball Resources – Style Supply – JT – Bob Long – VForce – Virtue – Critical pb.

Position you play: Goal keeper!

Favorite Pro team: PERSIAN GULF!

Favorite Pro players: Maximus Lundqvist

Favorite drill: Snap shooting

Favorite tournament accomplishment: World Cup Asia 2009, which was my first tournament that I played with Demonz Red. It was the first time I participated in a game that I didn’t win, and yet I had the most fun.

Advice to any new players: Don’t listen to anyone’s advice. Get out there and try it on your own!

Do you have any rival team or player? Oh yeah I do. I have one hardcore competitor. I have to try very hard to outperform him, yet I haven’t always been successful. He is more mentally fit, and I am more physically fit. We are best friends, but we won’t let our friendship detract from our goal to be better than the other. Right now we are playing on the same team. The interesting thing is that even though we have the same birth date, he is younger than me. His name is Amirhosein #777!

Mentors: Reza Badrian #03 (Datis)

You are now playing in two leagues (MPOC & MY-NPL) in Malaysia and you have the experience to play in INPL (Iran National Paintball League). What are the differences between paintball in Iran and paintball in Malaysia? (level of playing, discipline of holding tournaments, etc) In fact, I’m playing in 5 leagues this year. My team won’t be in MY-NPL due to some difficulties. The main difference between the two countries’ paintball scenes is the players’ practice mentality. In Malaysia, they do not believe in the value of training. They just want to play. On the other hand, in Iran practice is the key factor for the players. This of course will affect their physical strength. The most important difference is in the management. In Malaysia the tournaments are organized and performed at a higher level than in Iran. The organization in Iran is weak and scattered . In fact, without Datis [team], paintball in Iran wouldn’t be able to grow and Iran could end up like the rest of the Middle East. There are over 100 paintball teams in Malaysia, where as in Iran there might be less than 30 teams. Malaysia has the potential to be better but unfortunately it is not being utilized to the highest degree.

Goal for this season: MPOC, TPOC and WPPL Champion!

What are your plans for future? Next year I will be in Florida. I have had a few [team] offers however, I want to take my time and be able to pick the best team. [End]

Thanks for the interview Amirhosein. Check out the Derder footage of Demonz Red at the Malaysia World Cup Asia 2010 below and let us know what you think about the interview, the paintball scene in Malaysia, or whatever else is on your mind.

The team is sponsored by Angel and coached by Pro Player Maximus Lundqvist in the tournaments. Parham is without a doubt the best Paintball player currently playing in Asia. Everybody enjoys watching him when he is playing. He is extremely quick, maintains great field awareness and not to mention a phenomenal player!

Name: Parham Nazari

Age: 18

Hometown: Tehran

Any hobbies other than paintball: Football

Previous teams: Datis

Position you play: I play in all positions.

Favorite Pro team: Russian Legion, SK Moscow

Favorite Pro player: Konstantin Fedorov

Favorite tournament accomplishment:

5th place of Intercontinental Cup 2008 at World Cup in Toulouse, France

2nd place in PALM Kish Island Tournament, March 2009

Why do you play Paintball?

This is the only sport that satisfying me.

Who supports you?

My Father and Reza Adjami (Owner of team Persian Legend)

Who helped you become the player you are?

Due to lack of proper support and coaching, I mostly learn paintball through watching paintball videos taken from professional teams. Above that, Mr.Reza Badrian (Datis) and my colleagues in Persian Legend Team were a great help to me.

Why did you leave Datis for Persian Legend?

I had feeling that there was not much to learn in Datis team any more. Beside that, the atmosphere inside the team was in such a condition that the team members were hardly communicating. Above all, decisions were taken during the games by team leader was improper decisions.

Persian Legend team is a talented, motivated and energetic team and in compare to Datis, they are physically more fitted. The team members have excellent communication and they have very much respect to each other and acting like a family.
How many days do you practice in a week?

At the moment I practice 3 days a week because I’m student and I have to study too, but my insistence is to practicing every day since it is very enjoyable to me.

Advice to any new players?

My advice always is to practice more and more.

Mentors?

Not in a proper way, but on a best effort, I try to teach my colleagues whatever I know.

How is the level of Paintball in Iran comparing to Europe?

To my knowledge the Iranian teams are in a very good level of playing compare to European teams and if to be supported, for sure they will be a big competitor to the European and American Paintball Teams.

Further I have to mention that due to limitations and lack of supports and sponsors, paintball became a very expensive sport in Iran and most of the expenses are provided by the players themselves. Only a few clubs are available that their players could afford the expenses for normal practicing and participating in some of the tournaments.

Do you have any plan to play for any European team in future?

Not for the moment, but I think Persian Legend team has a big potential and capacity to be a good and hard competitor to European teams.

Goal for this season?

My goal is to practicing as much as possible in this season and looking towards finding sponsors for participating in European tournaments.

This interview was made possible by ProPaintball.com’s very own Nima Razavi out of Mashhad, Iran.

How is paintball different in Iran out of USA?

Actually I don’t have any experience with the American tournaments but its obvious they had too much practice time and this kind of level appears when you are playing too many tournament during the season that they have. Don’t have an idea about Russia and Southern California because I never play against their teams. Right now I’m playing for Demons Red as a guest player in Malaysia. In Malaysia you have too many events during the season and but it helps toward growing and improving the paintballers skills. Right now they are not able to play professional as team, but in next 1 or 2 years they’ll see the new level of paintball in whole country because they are the organizers of all the asian paintball events. In the end, about home country and DATIS, I can say the only team in whole Asia continent that playing paintball in the professional level is this old famous team and The Only Player Maker Team in Iran. I’ve played with this team for 6 years and we are the overall champions in the entire country for 5 years! The trophy room of DATIS is full of the Medals and cups from all around the middle east, Asia and Europe. DATIS sponsored by Planet Eclipse (Ego 10 + Gear ), Dye ( Rotor & i4 & Navi ), JT ( Attackpacks & Bags ) for this following year . Paintball in Iran right now is not very professional at all and this is the big problem for teams like DATIS for training. The latest news up coming out of Iran is that next year is going to be better and we will see the other top teams in Div.1 like Persian Legends, they keep training hard and I’m happy to see these guys are showing the better level of their team.

Goal for this season?

I’m is in the middle of 3 different seasons of paintball but I’m happy for myself in Malaysia because I could show the Professional level ofpaintball and trying to make my team more aggressive for the overall championship here at end of this year.

Aco and his team Datis won this tournament beating Persian Legend in the Final. So Datis won all the tournaments in Iran in this year (4 events, 4 wins for Aco & DATIS). Now, DATIS and Persian Legend are in Thailand for Pattaya International Paintball Tournament (It’s the 1st leg of PALS-Paintball Asia League Series). They will both compete in Division 1. The event will take place on 12th & 13th of March.

Pro Paintball would like to thank Aco Amir and Nima Rizavi for their time. In addition, we would like to congratulate the paintball players in Iran for taking their game to the next level.
