Vicious Series Event 2 Wrap Up by Ben Johnson

Photographer and Paintball Player Ben Johnson was able to get the best of both sides of the field this weekend at the Vicious RaceTo Series Event #2. ProPaintball caught up with both of them following last Saturday and Sunday’s event at Metro Paintball Games in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Check out the Photo Gallery Inside
Saturday:
The weekend started out wet and very muddy.  Overnight Friday and into Saturday there was a considerable amount of rain, and that quickly turns into thick mud and large puddles at Metro Paintball Games.  Saturday morning the RaceTo-2 bracket started play in light to medium rain, but the heavy downpours had already passed.  The field and staging area were very wet and muddy, but the event would go on!  By mid-day the rain had cleared up, but the humidity stayed.  Temperatures were near 90F, and it was extremely humid. In the RaceTo-2 Semi-Finals Extortion faced Po Boys Wasted Talent, and AAF played against Mac Daddy All Stars.  Both matches only took 2 points with Extortion and AAF moving on to play for 1st.  In the Finals AAF won the first 2 points to take home the Event #2 1st place title, and $1,000 towards PSP Chicago entry.

Sunday:
The weather on Sunday was still hot, but much more manageable.  Temps were in the mid 80′s, but the humidity had dropped considerably and the rain had moved on.  Some areas of the playing field were still very wet, but the field dried up as the day went on, and most of the mud was gone by the end of the day. The RaceTo-4 Semi Finals saw DirtLife II playing New Jack City, and Aimless Factory against AIR ASSAULT PAINTBALL to see who would move on and play for the title.  Dirtlife II defeated New Jack City 4-1 to advance.  Aimless Factory came back from being down 0-2 to run out the clock and beat AIR ASSAULT PAINTBALL 3-2.  DirtLife II beat Aimless Factory 4-1 to win the Event #2 RaceTo-4 title, and $1,000 towards PSP Chicago entry.

Greg Paulie added:
Event #2 was hot and humid. The teams were great and fought hard all day Saturay. Some really good games were played on Saturday with AAF coming out on top. Sunday was nothing less that a beautiful day no wind sunny and 80 deg. The RaceTo-4 had some awesome matches and over times. In the end the team that had been playing strong al day ended up with the win. Dirtlife2 from St Louis took home the win and only lost 2 points all day. They were winning the break out and attacking both tapes and the center of the field.
Congrats to the top four teams in each division

This article was authored by Brandon Mason – who has written 35 paintball news and gear articles.

In 2002, Brandon Mason and Matt Wojdynski began tracking the internet activities of Kyle Johnson, aka V. Gnome, an 18-year old computer gamer. They monitored and recorded Kyle’s AOL instant messages and gathered information about his friends and family from other sources on the net. Blending this data with scenarios from videogames and sci-fi films, they developed a mythology in which Kyle is “singled out as the savior of the human race.” The story is told in Gem Missile: A Tribute to V. Gnome, a 40-page book that incorporates photographs of Kyle and excerpts from his personal correspondence. In August 2003, Mason and Wojdynski showed up on Kyle’s parent’s doorstep in Thousand Oaks. Mason introduced himself as “Z. Figiam,” Kyle’s “mentor from the future,” presented him with the book, and left without further explanation. The plot thickened several days later with Kyle posted a detailed description of the encounter to an on-line gaming forum, along with digital photos of every page in the book. Members of the forum quickly added their own theories and responses, which ranged from close readings of the text and speculations about the gender of its authors, to admissions of jealousy and accusations that Kyle had invented the story in order to get a high rating for his thread (which in a few weeks had received over 40,000 hits). A year passed after this initial contact. In August 2004, Mason and Wojdynski mailed Kyle a package containing a photograph of their meeting a year earlier, along with a note, a certificate, and a plane ticket to Minneapolis. Kyle was met at the airport by a man in a beat up Lincoln Town Car who identified himself as “The Gatekeeper.” For two days, Kyle was led around the city in search of robots, buried treasure and information needed to save the future. Mason and Wojdynski involved numerous actors and another on-line gamer who, equally baffled, was driven with Kyle to a forest and abandoned there. At some point, Kyle noticed that his new friend had mysteriously disappeared. “I stood there alone in the woods, in Minnesota, with a shovel and a large black locked box, more confused then I have ever been in my life.” Kyle survived the trip and posted a detailed account of his adventure, concluding, “it was a great experience, and I would not hesitate to save the future again, if the chance ever arose”. Today, V. Gnome believes he is the savior of Paintball. SIDE NOTE—– WANTED: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. P.O. Box 1122, Newport Beach, CA 92659. Don’t they have both Division 3 and 4 RaceTo-2 and also Division 3 and 4 RaceTo-X? Were the divisions combined for this event as there was only one set of winners for each announced?

    Thanks.

I think the Vicious Series will be 3 divisions in 2011. So many teams around the MW want to play RaceTo-4. I know this last weekend at the event there was talk of 1 RaceTo-2 and 2 Race To-4 divisions for 2011. I hope so it is so much fun and they have 2 air stations in each pit and the lcd screens are really cool. I look foward to event 3 and 2011. Good jog to the refs on the field they work hard and try thier best to call it right down the middle.

The Vicious Delicious Ultra Evil was just awesome. It broke so big you would think people were getting shot 2 or 3 times when it was really just 1 ball.

    Can’t wait till July
