Pro Paintball first look: NANO50 with Chris Lasoya
When we landed at the 2009 PSP World Cup, rumors were flying that Chris “Pony Boy” Lasoya was behind the mysterious fifty cal paintball and he reportedly had a tournament paintball gun the size of his hand. Over the years, Chris Lasoya has become known for pushing the edge in tournament paintball. With this in mind, we unleashed the bloodhounds to track Chris down and get the inside scoop on the hottest item in paintball news, .50cal. To be honest, it didn’t take much to find Pony Boy. We found Chris in the 50cal shooting range setup alongside the G.I. Milsim booth, hosted by none other than the creator of X-ball himself, Mr. Richmond Italia. Press play on the video and watch as Chris breaks down what could become one of the most revolutionary pieces of new paintball gear since the debut of the electronic marker.

Couple of things….
1. Any gun looks like that at those distances.
2. Gonna be hard for us to watch you use the gun when your running around on a D2 field.
3. Relationship must have ended with Dye at cup, so he is jumping on the next ship.
4. The only reason why this .50 cal stuff will work is richmond. He can navigate the paintball business landscape like no other.
Agreed. Of course we are going to be skeptical. Chris is just doing his job of promoting a gun. Who knows maybe in reality he probably thinks it shoots like crap. By the way, not only is the company’s name misleading and unoriginal, the gun just looks like turd. Just because you created xball doesn’t mean you can create a gun…We haven’t seen any corner to corner action, so no evidence there. Matter of fact, it didn’t even look consistent in that short range.
I just talked to Billy Wing. There is NOT a conversion kit being planned for the NT, Dye’s flagship marker, so that probably means there are no plans for the DM’s either. I highly doubt Dye will release a 50 cal marker if they just released the NT. If Dye, one of the leading manufacturers isn’t going to make a 50 cal gun, then I highly doubt people will switch over to other brands meaning they won’t be switching to 50 cal.
I have to concur fullheartedly. As much respect as I have for Chris (the only reason he’s sub-pro is a leg injury), he’s just trying to sell a product. This idea may not be as bad as I originally thought after seeing this footage, but it’s still not going to take over .68.
THATS RIGHT SON!
he’s such a tool
I gotta say tho, excellent video by Pro Paintball. getting the idea of 50 cal, 800+ balls in a pod and a hopper, crazy.
I wonder tho, are we just gonna shoot a mass more on the field since we can carry more? Or are cases going to be half the price?
And 400 balls in a pod? I fit 120 now right? so you’re saying that a 50 cal ball gives me 3.5x more paint in the same size pod? oh reary.
They may be thinking of a 180 pod or 200. In that case it will be approx. double of what we can hold. It would be nice to carry more paint in games (in case they last more than a few minutes), but I dont see this taking off or being affordable for players to switch, IMHO.
FTW!

F*** .50 cal
PROPANE IS GOING TO CHANGE PAINTBALL!!!!!
FOOTBALL SHAPED PAINT IS GOING TO CHANGE PAINTBALL!!!!
WE NEVER LANDED ON THE MOON!!!!
The only way .50 cal paintball sales works like they have planned is if they sell the cases for the same price.
The fuel behind all of this is making paint sales profitable again. Giving us a product that uses less materials, and charging us the same price is the only way it works….
We, as the end user, will see no savings whatsoever from this.
GOOGLES ON sign in the background while that tool was shooting w/out googles made me LOL.
Maybe if it said “I’m tell you right now, put your googles on son!!!” he would have. Way to set the example douche
I personally think that Chris has watched too many AND 1 mix tapes. I realize he’s trying to make a buck, but GOOD LORD does he sound fake.
You guys are retarded… sorry but i shot the .50 and he is talking no joke… The .50 is off the hook. Stop hating and wait for it…
this will change paintball in many ways…. an aspect that many people have not thought of is true… if its true what lasoya said that a pod can hold 400 paintballs…. then companies will start coming out with smaller packs… and who is gonna make this paint??? rps??? so many things will be affected but i believe in the long run we will still be palying with our .68 cal paint…. but you never know it might change the game forever…. i am assuming it hurts less… therfore more people will be playing the game… makin it get more recognition as sport to the world outside the pball community…. i just wanna see how this subject satnds a year from now…
i think its stupid to switch to .50 cal all the gear will have to be changed from hoppers to pods to barrels and even to guns. alot of people dnt want to have to buy all new gear just to play paintball. i think it may lose alot of players
You all should read the latest issue of Facefull: Revolution. There is a HUGE interview with Richmond who basically created the .50 cal, and from what I read it actually sounded quite good. They’re not forcing anybody to switch from .68 to .50, its just another option and apparently a more affordable user friendly option. Just save up as if you’re saving up for any other paintball gun!
The only thing I really have a problem with though is the field paint. I highly doubt paintball fields are going to invest in .50 cal this early on, specially when everyone is complaining. If field paint is .68 cal, then how are you supposed to play at that field with a .50?
I just hope whatever happens is best for paintball, .50 cal or not.
Alright…I don’t know if it’s the old school baller in me or what, but I hate this.
First, good job Chris, showing you’re above the rules of wearing a mask.
If someone is actually allowed to shoot that against me and my .68 in a tourney…I’m going to be pissed. I go out with 250- 270 in my hopper, and 5 140 pods, (980 max)compared to their 2480? Ridiculous
This also means that there are going to have to be specific hoppers so that the paintballs don’t jam in the feedneck.
For this to make sense leagues are going to have to mandate calibers.
About it hurting less…My common sense tells me that it will hurt more. Less area of impact, more pain. That’s why it stings when you get hit by a ball that doesn’t break. So this would make less people play. With that said, bunkers will have to be made thicker so that the .50 doesn’t pop them, or make them deflate faster.
This is just a ploy for this company to sell something different that those people that need to have one of everything will buy. “You have absolutely NO OTHER reason to buy our crap, but this will get you”.
.50 cal will hurt LESS. But the performance level will be less. It’s simple math. .50 cal weighs less than a .68 ball. Less weight at the same speed has less inertia. It slows down faster, resulting in less range. It also has lower impact energy since it weighs less. Size has nothing to do with it in this case, only weight and speed. If I hit you with a lead ball the size of a baseball, and one the size of a paintball, you tell me which one hurts less. I bet I know the answer.
.50cal mathematically won’t work out, unless players want to play on fields half the size we have now. In order for .50 cal to have the same effective range, the max fps would need to go up to over 400 fps in order for the downrange velocity to be high enough for the balls to break. Personally, I’m not dropping cash on new gear just to use less effective paint. If it mean I have to get out of the sport and picking up say, knitting, I will.
50 cal will hurt more….example if i chuck a baseball and a softball at you (and they go the same speed) which is going to hurt more? the baseball. the energy has a smaller focal point…kind of like how a nail works just with a larger SA.
lol did you see how inconsistent the hopper was feeding
I highly doubt this will go far … look how far Rap-4 got with .43 cal. Sure they didnt have the marketing prowess of some but it was an inferior product … RAP-4 now makes .68 cal products and is doing better .. go figure. Marketing brainiacs are hoping that enough fans of Lasoya will jump off the proverbial “cliff” .. Grab a brain kids.
so for those of us keeping count he said something like 480 balls in the hopper and 400 per pod…
.68 caliber balls are only 36% bigger than .50 balls. That hopper looked like a regular sized hopper. I dunno about yall but how does he get 480 .50 balls in a hopper that holds 200 .68 caliber balls?
i shot the 50 at cup nothing to go oo or aww over it gona fade into the back shadows but gi milislim just pushed it like it was taking over paintball still the 68 is going to be around for a long time
