Video: Randy Bocelli Accident

randyRandy Bocelli of the Adrenaline Force Tournament Series and Bring It On Paintball was involved in a serious accident on Wednesday 5/6/09. This past Monday morning, Randy had an ACI Carbon Fiber 110ci tank successfully hydro tested at 5000psi. These older ACI tanks have required an adapter to fit the current regulators on the market, which are a bit smaller in size. The adaptor had been fastened onto the bottle, and the original regulator was then locktighted into place upon Randy’s receipt. After letting the tank sit over night, Randy proceeded to slowly fill the bottle with utmost caution early Wednesday morning. As the bottle reached approximately 27-2900psi, the fixed adaptor stripped out from the bottle. The regulator still attached to the hose, snapped around and hit Randy in the stomace, while the bottle bounced off of his chest and proceeded to fly across the room and take out the wire shelving you see in the left side of the screen.

We’re thankful that Randy is alright after such a serious accident. This accident serves as an excellent opportunity to remind everyone to insure your tanks are regularly hydro tested and your regulators and valve systems are properly secured to your bottles.

Wow, that’s scary stuff. Randy, hope you recover fine. With ACI out of business someone needs to get this out there that all of these adapters need to be pulled off the market.

      Hey “wow”,

Thanks for the heads up. As per your comments, we went ahead and adjusted the story and added in a reminder for everyone to test and properly secure their valves to the bottle.

      We appreciate your feedback!

Glad to hear that Randy survived with this. People take HPA for granted many times not understanding the pressures involved with the tanks and how dangerous they can be. Safety makes all the difference in this- starting with regular hydro testing, replacing your burst disc, fittings, and macroline yearly along with regular maintence on your HPA,HPR regulators.

There needs to be more safety education on the fields in general But especially directed at our air systems (both co2 and HPA) and self-fill players. I see players filling without holding the whips all the time and once in a while I’ve seen popoffs, but happily only one accident. The two poor souls who were killed a few years ago in the co2 valve screw off accidents died from uneducated responses to equipment failure.
The demand for better safety in general should come from the industry and players before it has to come from the insurance companies.
      imho

Sooo sososo glad to hear that Randy is (relatively) OK. I haven’t known him long, just met him a few months ago, but he’s easily one of the nicest guys I’ve met in paintball.
